FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas running back Knile Davis didn’t take part in contact drills during the team’s first spring scrimmage on Friday.

The practice was the first open one this spring for the Razorbacks, who were 11-2 last season and won the Cotton Bowl over Kansas State.

Davis, returning to the field after an ankle injury cost him all of last season, has taken part in all of the Razorbacks spring practices. Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino says Davis’ status will be taken on a week-by-week basis moving forward.

The junior led all Southeastern Conference running backs with 1,322 two seasons ago, averaging 147 yards per game over the final seven games of the season.

He was a preseason second-team All-SEC selection last season before injuring his ankle.
