PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Prosecutors say an 18-year-old Portland man ate dinner with his parents, then attacked them as they slept with swords and a gun, killing his father and wounding his mother.

Jacob James Simon pleaded not guilty Thursday to a murder count in the death of his father, Peter Simon, a third-degree assault charge in the wounding of his mother, Sheryl Simon, and four counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

The Oregonian reports that police have not discussed a motive for the Tuesday night attack.

Prosecutors say Simon used a cavalry sword, a second sword, a knife and a .22-caliber handgun against his father.

Sheryl Simon suffered an arm wound from a sword and was able to run to a neighbor’s home for help.
