SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Marion County sheriff’s officers say the body of a 26-year-old Monmouth, Ore., man has been retrieved from a Salem drainage canal that weaves through several apartment complexes.
After a resident called 911 on Friday, officers and firefighters recovered the body of Christopher Marshall. Family members told investigators that Marshall had been staying with friends in Salem.
Deputy Matt Hagan said the canal is about 5 feet wide and usually less than a foot deep but recent heavy rains have left it about 3 feet deep.
Spokesman Don Thomson says there were no signs of obvious trauma but an autopsy is planned.
Sheriff’s officers are investigating.
