COUPEVILLE, Wash. (AP) — An 18-year-old woman who drove drunk and crashed her car, killing three friends aboard, has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison.
KIRO News reports (http://bit.ly/H50wkc) that Kaylea Souza crashed her car on Whidbey Island this past November, killing Mack Porter, Mick Poynter and Rob Knight.
Despite the judge throwing out a plea agreement and sentencing Souza to the maximum allowed, the families of the three killed say the sentence was not enough.
Souza apologized Friday, saying that the three men were her best friends.
Superior court judge Vickie Churchill said she’s bound by sentencing limits, but not the plea agreement. Churchill threw it out and gave Souza the maximum of 68 months in prison.
