RIDGEFIELD, Wash. (AP) — Fire officials say one person was found dead in a house fire in rural Clark County.

Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy says crews responding to the Tuesday night blaze found smoke and flames pouring out of the two-story farmhouse east of Ridgefield. They tried to enter the house but were initially pushed back by flames and heat. Crews later entered the house and found one person dead.

Dawdy did not have details about the victim. The Clark County Fire Marshal and Clark County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.

The house is located in a remote area of unincorporated Clark County. Dawdy says crews had to truck in water on very narrow country roads, which made fighting the fire more challenging.
