GOLDENDALE, Wash. (AP) — A Goldendale High School teaching assistant accused of having sexual contact with a 16-year-old boy has been fired from her job.

Cheri Powers has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor and will be arraigned on Monday in Klickitat County Superior Court. Her lawyer, David Quesnel, says she’s presumed innocent and will work through the legal process.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (http://is.gd/mEIPCu) a parent alerted school officials to the allegation. The Goldendale Sentinel first reported (http://tinyurl.com/d6kfmec) the teacher’s dismissal last week.

Powers worked with special-needs students and also as an assistant track and cross-country coach.
