NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that that USGA has awarded the 2017 U.S Women’s Open to a Donald Trump-owned course in New Jersey.
The person spoke Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the announcement that the event will be held at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster will take place Thursday.
Bloomberg and Golfweek were the first to report the story.
This is the first major golf event to be played at a course owned by Trump, the 65-year-old real estate mogul and TV personality who owns 10 courses in North America and Europe, according to his website.
Trump National was the site of the 2009 U.S. Junior Amateur and Girls Junior championships. It is located about 45 minutes from New York City.
