NEW YORK (AP) — Boston Red Sox pitcher Mathew Price has been suspended for 50 games for a second violation for a drug of abuse under the minor league drug program.
A 22-year-old right-hander from Virginia Tech taken in the eighth round of the 2010 amateur draft, Price had made one appearance this season for Class A Greenville of the South Atlantic League. He had been on the disabled list since April 5.
The suspension announced Friday was the 40th this year under the minor league program, including 15 for drugs of abuse.
