TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) — The Dominican Republic’s women’s volleyball team earned a spot in the London Olympics by defeating Cuba 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 27-29, 25-20) in the NORCECA Olympic qualification tournament on Saturday night.

The Dominican Republic is the sixth team to qualify for the London Games, joining the United States, Italy, China, Algeria and host Britain.

It will be the Dominican Republic’s second trip to the Olympics since volleyball was introduced in 1964. The team also went to Athens in 2004, finishing 11th.

Cuba defeated Puerto Rico 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-22) in the semifinals of the continental qualification tournament, while the Dominican Republic swept Canada (25-15, 25-18, 25-15) to advance.
