NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets have optioned right-hander Chris Schwinden to Triple-A Buffalo after he made two subpar starts in place of the injured Mike Pelfrey, and New York selected the contract of outfielder Vinny Rottino from its top minor league club.

Mets manager Terry Collins said before New York played Arizona on Friday that 41-year-old right-hander Miguel Batista will start Tuesday in Pelfrey’s spot.

Batista has appeared in 10 games this season, making one start. He will be available out of the bullpen in the first two games of the three-game series against Arizona but Collins said the Mets will have to bring up a reliever Sunday.

Schwinden was 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA in two starts.

Also, Pelfrey was transferred to the 60-day DL as he recovers from reconstructive elbow surgery.
