KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A bomb killed a NATO service member Sunday in eastern Afghanistan, the coalition said.

The alliance did not provide details about the attack or the nationality of the service member killed. NATO usually waits for member nations to provide details about troop deaths.

The coalition initially said three service members had been killed in the attack, but later issued a correction to its statement.

Militants commonly plant bombs along roads used by security forces, inflicting heavy casualties on NATO and Afghan government forces but also on civilians.

So far this month, six coalition members have died in Afghanistan, bringing the year’s toll to 138.
