GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A 19-year-old man who slipped on a rock and fell into the Rogue River while trying to take a picture is presumed drowned.

The Josephine County sheriff’s office says officials had hoped he was able to climb out Saturday downstream, but searches from the air and on the water were unable to find him. Now they’re looking for a body to recover.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman, Erin Maue, told Mail Tribune (http://is.gd/XWapHk) the man was with friends at Rainie Falls, about 20 miles from Merlin. The falls provide the largest vertical drop in the Wild and Scenic section of the river.

The friends had to hike for an hour to get a cell phone connection to call for help.
