OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Police say the man who was shot by an Olympia police officer on Friday had a handgun and raised it, presenting a threat to the officer.
The man who died was identified Monday by the Thurston County coroner as 53-year-old Bradden W. Ferber of Olympia. The manner of death remains under investigation.
The Olympian reports (http://is.gd/AYmyKo ) it’s unclear whether the shot fired by Officer Mike Hovda killed Ferber. Police Chief Ronnie Roberts said Monday it was his understanding that two shots were fired and that the officer fired only once.
The incident began when officers responded to a report that a drunken driver involved in an accident had briefly entered an apartment and walked away.
