HOUSTON (AP) — A school official with knowledge of the decision says Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne will announce his retirement on Tuesday.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Monday night on condition of anonymity because the school hasn’t announce Byrne’s retirement.

The 66-year-old Byrne was hired at Texas A&M in December 2002. The Aggies are moving from the Big 12 Conference to the Southeastern Conference on July 1.

School President R. Bowen Loftin said last month that the two were discussing Byrne’s tenure. Byrne’s contract ends Aug. 31, 2013.
