PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A crowd of nearly 800 public school students, teachers, parents and community members has rallied in Portland to protest cuts to state education funding.
The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/VA2rnX ) that Friday’s grassroots rally came in advance of a Portland Public Schools Board vote to approve a new budget proposal that may save 110 teaching positions next year. That vote is set for Monday.
The event was organized by a new group calling itself UPSET, for Underfunded Parents, Students and Educators Together.
Police say there were no incidents.
