RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — The Energy Northwest board voted Thursday to spend $711 million to buy nuclear fuel for its power plant near Richland.

The fuel would not be used until 2021.

The Tri-City Herald reports (http://is.gd/LSH3YS ) the Energy Department proposed the deal that depends on selling some of the fuel for $731 million to the Tennessee Valley Authority, which has seven nuclear plants.
