Two local men were treated and released from a local hospital after being hit by an out-of-control powerboat Saturday.

Sgt. Dennis Pritchard, who supervises the Clark County Sheriff’s marine unit, said Monday afternoon that Tyler Travis, 18, of Camas, suffered a leg injury. He was among a group of people enjoying the sun when the powerboat plowed up onto the beach Saturday afternoon at Wintler Park.

John Burris, 49, of Vancouver, was waist-deep in the Columbia River when he wound up in the boat’s path, Pritchard said.

The two were treated at the scene and sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for further examination.

The sheriff’s marine unit, which is investigating the incident, has impounded the 28-foot Nordic powerboat. On Monday, investigators were looking to see if a mechanical problem could have caused the accident, Pritchard said.

Alcohol consumption did not appear to be a factor in the accident, Vancouver police Sgt. Mike Davis said Saturday.
