SHORELINE, Wash. (AP) — King County sheriff’s detectives are looking for a suspect and a motive in a shooting early Wednesday in Shoreline that killed a 17-year-old girl and wounded an 18-year-old man.

Sgt. Rodney Chinnick says the two were shot in an around a car in an apartment complex parking lot.

They called for help as they were driving to a hospital. They were met by deputies who rushed them to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where the 17-year-old died and the 18-year-old was reportedly in critical condition.

Deputy Travis DeFries says investigators don’t know if the teens were targeted or if it was a random shooting. He says shootings are rare in the Richmond Beach neighborhood.

Sheriff’s deputies operate as the police force in the city of Shoreline, just north of Seattle.
