CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have placed reliever Lendy Castillo on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain and recalled left-hander Scott Maine from Triple-A Iowa.
Manager Dale Sveum says Castillo tweaked his groin Sunday. The right-hander, who was obtained in the Rule 5 draft, is 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA in seven games this season.
Maine is 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA in five games with the Cubs this season. Maine and Randy Wells were sent down when right-handers Ryan Dempster and Kerry Wood were activated from the disabled list May 3.
Castillo’s DL stint is retroactive to May 12.
The Cubs announced the moves before Wednesday night’s game against Philadelphia.
