FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Joe McKnight says Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano brings a “different mentality” to New York’s offense, one that includes a simpler, easier-to-digest playbook.
McKnight says Wednesday that “everybody had a sigh of relief” when they saw that Sparano’s offense is scaled down compared to the system Brian Schottenheimer ran with the Jets for six seasons. While Schottenheimer is now St. Louis’ offensive coordinator after agreeing to part ways with the Jets, Sparano comes to New York after being fired as Miami’s head coach during last season.
The players say Sparano has a fiery presence on the practice field, barking orders at his players with a no-nonsense approach. Rookie wide receiver Stephen Hill says that’s how he likes it, and “I definitely respond better when someone is on me.”
