ARUSHA, Tanzania (AP) — Former Rwanda soccer captain Patrick Mafisango has died in a car crash in Tanzania. He was 32.

Mafisango’s death early Thursday was confirmed by his champion Tanzanian team, Simba Sports Club.

State television station TBC said the car Mafisango was driving crashed into a tree in Dar es Salaam, the country’s main city and commercial capital. Four passengers reportedly survived.

Mafisango, a midfielder, had been selected to play for Rwanda in next month’s World Cup qualifier against Algeria.

Simba Sports club says Mafisango’s body would be flown to neighboring Congo, where he was born, for burial.
