FIRCREST, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a 3-year-old Fircrest, Wash., boy has been located after his 18-month-old brother was found severely injured inside an apartment.

Pierce County sheriff’s Detective Ed Troyer says the children were in the care of their mother’s 28-year-old boyfriend while she was away from home for several days for medical treatment.

Troyer said the boyfriend dropped the 3-year-old off Thursday at a family member’s house. The spokesman says that boy had cuts and bruises.

The boyfriend, Stephan Perebeynos, called 911 Thursday afternoon and medics found the younger boy suffering from major head trauma. He’s reported in critical condition at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in nearby Tacoma.

The boyfriend has been arrested for investigation of assaulting a child.

When officers learned of two other children, they took a 7-year-old girl into protective custody but couldn’t initially find the 3-year-old. Troyer says the boyfriend’s relatives brought the child to the hospital Thursday night after hearing of the missing child alert.
