La Center’s city council has approved a proposal to bring a spray park, skate pad and improved playground equipment to Holley Park.
The park is heavily used by youth baseball teams and soccer clubs, said Mayor Jim Irish, who described the additions as “an important investment in our future.”
The La Center City Council approved the expansion during a May 2 council meeting. Construction will begin in a few weeks, city officials said, and is expected to be finished by summer’s end. The expansion will cost around $425,000, said Finance Director Suzanne Levis. The money will come from city revenue and reserves, she added.
BergerABAM of Vancouver is the lead design consultant on the project. New Line Skateparks will assist in the skate park design.
The 10-acre Holley Park, 1000 E. Fourth St., includes the Michael J. Nolan fields, with four Little League ball fields and a concession stand, as well as basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis courts, a community center, walking path and open space.
