WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — A trial opens Tuesday for a Washington state man accused of killing a beauty school classmate, in a case that shook a farm city that bills itself as the “Apple Capital of the World.”
Thirty-one-year-old Christopher Scott Wilson has been charged with murder in the 2010 death of 17-year-old Mackenzie Cowell. The high school senior was last seen leaving the beauty school Feb. 9, 2010 in Wenatchee, Wash. Her body was found four days later on the edge of the Columbia River.
A coroner determined she had been struck in the head, strangled and stabbed. Police interviewed hundreds of people before arresting Wilson months later.
Leading Wilson’s defense team is John Henry Brown, the attorney who also represents the U.S. Army soldier accused of killing 17 Afghan villagers in March.
