VENICE, Italy (AP) — Energy Team from France mastered the light, tricky winds to win the fleet racing championship at the America’s Cup World Series on Sunday.

The Oracle Racing crew skippered by Jimmy Spithill was second and Artemis Racing of Sweden was third in the nine-boat fleet. Artemis Racing defeated Luna Rossa-Piranha to win the match racing championship.

In the overall standings after five events, Spithill, the winning skipper in the 2010 America’s Cup, leads Emirates Team New Zealand, 84 points to 80. Artemis is third with 71.

The final event of the first season of the AC World Series will be in Newport, R.I., from June 26-July 1.

The second season will lead into the 34th America’s Cup in 2013 on San Francisco Bay.
