INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — IndyCar has levied $275,000 in fines to 13 different teams, including Indianapolis 500 pole-sitter Ryan Briscoe.
The fines covered 18 different infractions discovered in Saturday’s pre-qualifying inspection. IndyCar announced the penalties Sunday night.
The steepest penalty was a $50,000 fine against Fan Force United, which is fielding a car for ex-Formula One driver Jean Alesi in next Sunday’s Indy 500. The team was fined for a weight violation on the car, which is intended to create parity among all drivers.
IndyCar fined 11 teams $15,000 each for violating technical rules regarding the braking systems on the new Dallara DW12. Among those fined were Penske Racing teams for Briscoe and Will Power.
