Diamondbacks recall 3B Bell, cut INF Ransom

PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled third baseman Josh Bell from Triple-A Reno and designated infielder Cody Ransom for assignment.

Bell was batting .381 with nine doubles, a triple, four home runs and 30 RBIs in 26 games for Reno. The 25-year-old switch-hitter was in Arizona’s starting lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.

Bell, 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, appeared in 79 major league games for Baltimore from 2010-11. He was acquired from the Orioles on April 21 for Mike Belfiore. Bell was a fourth-round draft pick of the Dodgers in 2005.

Ransom hit .269 in 17 games for the Diamondbacks with four home runs, four doubles and 13 RBIs.
