VANCOUVER — Kate Burton, teacher-librarian at Fort Vancouver High School, was awarded a Distinguished Fulbright Award in Teaching. The award will pay for Burton to live and study in Sheffield, England, for six months during the 2012-2013 school year. During her stay, Burton will attend Sheffield Hallam University and take classes in technology-enhanced learning. She also will research teaching practices at one or two high schools in Sheffield with similar demographics to Fort’s.
Burton has been a teacher-librarian at Fort Vancouver since 2004. She also was a librarian at Roosevelt Elementary School and she taught English at Skyview and Fort Vancouver high schools.
Prior to coming to Vancouver Public Schools, Burton taught English as a foreign language in Nishinomiya, Japan; was an itinerant librarian in Evergreen Public Schools; and taught Japanese as a foreign language in the Camas School District. The Fulbright Award, sponsored by the federal Department of State, sends highly accomplished teachers to study overseas.
