BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Three American women are vying for two slots on the U.S. time trial team at the 2012 London Olympics.

Making the cut may come down to a five-day stage race in Boise starting Thursday.

Kristin Armstrong Savola, the 2008 Olympic time trial gold medalist, ex-world champion Amber Neben, and Evelyn Stevens, a Wall Street associate-turned-professional cyclist, will race at the Exergy Tour in southwestern Idaho.

In all, 16 teams are racing.

One, Team TIBCO, had its plans complicated with the theft of $120,000 in equipment Wednesday. The bikes were recovered later.

USA Cycling, the sport’s U.S. governing body, will name its London-bound squad June 15.

Among Armstrong, Neben and Stevens, the selection committee’s assessment of which two have the best Olympic podium chances will govern who rides in the Aug. 1 time trial.
