NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A person familiar with the decision says Texas-Arlington has accepted an invitation to become a non-football playing member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.

The person spoke to The Associated Press Tuesday on condition of anonymity because no public announcement has been made about the decision. A conference call is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

The person says Texas-Arlington’s decision to join the Sun Belt still must be approved by the University of Texas Board of Regents.

The Sun Belt Conference is now slated to have 12 members for the 2013-14 academic year, including 10 which play football.

Denver is leaving the league this summer, while North Texas and FIU will leave in the summer of 2013. They’ll be replaced by Texas State, Georgia State and UT-Arlington.
