Hoping to save native trees and restore plant diversity, environmental education organization Columbia Springs is calling for volunteers to battle invasive weeds at its Invasive Species Invasion event Saturday.

Participants will pull English Ivy, a plant native to Europe and western Asia. The dark green vine spreads quickly, and can bring down trees with its weight when it climbs into canopies.

Volunteers are welcome from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and will meet in the SWIFT Classroom at Columbia Springs’ environmental education center. Workers will be provided with snacks and tools.
