YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — A Yakima police sergeant who was under investigation for possible misconduct has resigned.

The city said Monday that Sgt. Erik Hildebrand resigned Friday. He had been on leave since March 5.

Officials refused to discuss why he had been under investigation. Records obtained by Yakima Herald-Republic (http://is.gd/UQqJ0v) indicate it was related to a prostitution sting in January that was run by the gang unit he supervised.

Hildebrand was a 15-year veteran who earned more than $85,000 a year.
