HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — The Washington County sheriff’s office says an inmate hanged himself with a piece of cloth in the jail at Hillsboro.

The sheriff’s office say 28-year-old Mario Alfredo Bautista-Garcia of El Salvador was alone in his cell Tuesday afternoon when a deputy found him unconscious. He could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.

Bautista-Garcia was arrested May 15 when he was accused of stabbing two men at a bus shelter in Tigard.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/cpZAGI ) he was not on a suicide watch and about half an hour had passed after an hourly check before he was found.
