MUNICH (AP) — Sergei Martynov’s winning streak in the 50-meter rifle prone ended Friday when the Belarus shooter overtook everyone except China’s Wang Weiyi in the World Cup final.
Martynov had won four straight World Cups and five of the last six dating to more than a year ago.
He rallied from seventh in the eight-man final, but his 702.1 total was almost two short. Wang started with a one-point advantage and finished with 704 for his second career victory.
Italy’s Marco De Nicolo won a second straight bronze medal. He edged South Korea’s Han Jin-seop by two-tenths of a point.
Japan’s Teruyoshi Akiyama won his first World Cup in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol. He tied the world-record final score of 34 set by silver medalist Christian Reitz of Germany last week.
