CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox have placed starting pitcher John Danks on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left shoulder and recalled left-hander Jose Quintana from Triple-A Charlotte.

Manager Robin Ventura said Thursday the moves would be made. The team officially announced them before Friday’s game against Cleveland.

Quintana will start Friday’s game in Danks’ place. He threw 5 2-3 innings of one-hit ball in relief in his only major league appearance at Cleveland on May 7.

Danks, who is 3-4 with a 5.70 ERA, thinks he’ll be ready to rejoin the rotation after June 4.
