FAIRVIEW, Ore. (AP) — Negotiators for the Reynolds School District east of Portland and its striking teachers say they’re pleased with the progress they’re making at the bargaining table.
Both sides continued talking into the evening Friday in an effort to resolve a walkout that began Monday. Classes have been canceled all week for the roughly 10,300 students affected.
Salary and working conditions have been the toughest issues.
Earlier Friday, Fairview police arrested a woman on the picket line. Officers say she was accused of interfering with a police officer.
She was identified as 53-year-old LeAnn Traylor of Salem. The Oregonian (http://is.gd/Hg5Fup) says Traylor is listed as a consultant on the Oregon Education Association staff. Union spokesman Bruce Scherer says Traylor believes she was handled roughly by police. He says all picket line participants had been following rules established with the police. Traylor was cited and released.
