Eugene assault suspect collapses in police custody

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Eugene police say an assault suspect who collapsed and had trouble breathing after his arrest at a restaurant remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Police gave the 55-year-old CPR and an ambulance took him to a Springfield hospital on Thursday.

The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/I2SdTg ) the man struck an employee of a Taco Time restaurant when she made a call because he refused to leave. Witnesses say he had been yelling curse words.

Other employees held the man until police arrived. Police said he was handcuffed and guided to the ground without any significant struggle.
