JBLM soldier killed in Afghanistan

JOINT BASE-LEWIS MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — A 23-year-old soldier based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Army said Saturday that Pfc. Cale C. Miller, of Overland Park, Kan., died of injuries Thursday when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device near Maiwand, Kandahar Province.

Miller joined the Army in February 2011. He was deployed to Afghanistan for the first time in April.

He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division at Lewis-McChord south of Seattle.
