EAST WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — A family of three from Tukwila was taken to a hospital after being rescued from the Columbia River.
KOMO-TV reports that the three — a mother, father and 6-year-old son — were on the verge of drowning after they fell off a personal watercraft by Lincon Rock State Park, near Wenatchee, on Saturday.
Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said deputies were patrolling the river when they saw a riderless watercraft with an empty lifejacket floating nearby. As they got closer they saw a hand above the water’s surface 50 yards away.
The three appeared to be struggling to stay afloat and went underwater two or three times before the patrol boat came alongside them. They were conscious but extremely cold, and they were taken to a hospital for hypothermia. Their condition was not immediately available.
