TORONTO (AP) — An Air Canada jet bound for Japan has landed safely in Toronto after an engine shut down after takeoff from Pearson International Airport.

Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said Monday there were no injuries among the 318 passengers and 16 crew aboard the Boeing 777. Fitzpatrick says the crew requested an emergency landing after taking off Monday afternoon and the plane landed normally on one engine.

Fitzpatrick says the cause of the engine shutdown is not known.

The fight involved was flight AC001 to Narita airport in Tokyo.
