BEND, Ore. (AP) — Deschutes County authorities say a 54-year-old man was taken into custody Monday after he threatened suicide at his home in La Pine.

Sgt. Tim Leak, a sheriff’s office spokesman, says Antler Road was closed to traffic while a deputy trained in crisis intervention negotiated with the armed man for about 30 minutes.

The man agreed to walk out of his garage with his hands visible. He was taken to a Bend hospital for a mental evaluation.

Leak says the man had been in an earlier dispute at a La Pine store, and it involved a handgun.
