Standoff at Ore. hotel ends in apparent suicide

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) — Police in Coos Bay say an armed man who barricaded himself in a hotel room has died in an apparent suicide.

KVAL.com reports that (http://is.gd/as65aE ) that SWAT teams discovered the man’s body when they entered the room Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, the SWAT teams sent to the Edgewater Inn helped evacuate hotel occupants staying on the same side as the man.

Police told KCBY that the man was involved in a stalking investigation, and investigators went to the hotel room to question him after spotting his vehicle in the parking lot.

The man reportedly fired a shot that hit the door of his room before barricading himself inside.

The man’s name has not been released.

Businesses near the hotel were on lockdown during the standoff.
