NYON, Switzerland (AP) — Chelsea captain John Terry was been suspended for his team’s next two European matches for his red card against Barcelona in the Champions League semifinals.

Terry sat out Chelsea’s victory in the final against Bayern Munich to serve a mandatory one-match ban. The disciplinary panel of the Union of European Football Associations added two additional games to the penalty on Thursday, finding Terry guilty of violent conduct when he struck his knee into the back of Alexis Sanchez.

Terry is ineligible for the Super Cup match against Europa League winner Atletico Madrid in August and for Chelsea’s first Champions League match in September.

Terry and Chelsea can challenge the sanction before UEFA’s appeals panel.
