OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A Washington candidate for secretary of state is getting the support of the current officeholder and two predecessors.

Sam Reed, Ralph Munro and Bruce Chapman each said Wednesday they are backing Republican hopeful Kim Wyman. Those supporters served as Washington’s secretary of state from 1975 until today.

Reed, Munro and Chapman say Wyman has the experience and independence to manage the office. She also has the support of the state teacher’s union, the Washington Education Association.

Wyman is currently the auditor in Thurston County. She faces six other competitors in the campaign for secretary of state, including former Seattle mayor Greg Nickels and state Sen. Jim Kastama.
