MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-handed starter Charlie Morton on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle says the injury is “inhibiting his ability to consistently finish pitches” and was likely contributing to his struggles. Morton has lost three straight starts and is 2-6 with a 4.65 ERA this season.
Morton is expected to rest for a few days, then resume throwing bullpen sessions while continuing rehabilitation exercises.
Hurdle says right-hander Brad Lincoln will start Tuesday’s game in Cincinnati.
Right-hander Juan Cruz has returned to the club and has been activated from the restricted List.
Morton’s move is retroactive to Wednesday.
