ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Flotilla rallied to win the $1 million Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday, the third consecutive long shot to win a Breeders’ Cup race at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Christophe Lemaire, Flotilla charged down the stretch on the far outside to win by 114 lengths. Sent off at 11-1 odds, the 2-year-old filly bred in France paid $24.80, $10.80 and $7.80. It was the first Breeders’ Cup starter for French trainer Mikel Delzangles, who will saddle defending champion Dunaden in next week’s Melbourne Cup in Australia.
Flotilla ran 1 mile on the turf in 1:34.64.
Ireland-bred Watsdachances returned $6.40 and $5.40, while Summer of Fun was another half-length back in third and paid $19.40 to show.
Sky Lantern from Ireland was the 5-2 favorite in the field of 14.
