Valparaiso rallies past Campbell 41-21 for 1st win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Jake Hutson ran for a career-high 248 yards and three touchdowns and Valparaiso won its first game of the season, rallying from a 14-point deficit to defeat Campbell 41-21 Saturday.

The Crusaders (1-8, 1-5 Pioneer Football League) trailed 21-7 with 8:41 left in the first half, then scored 34 unanswered points.

Eric Hoffman completed 21 of 23 passes for 200 yards and three scores. After Hoffman’s second TD throw to Sterling Summerville made it 21-13 at halftime, Hutson had scoring runs of 17, 62 and 4 yards to put the Crusaders up 34-21.

Valparaiso had 504 yards total offense compared to just 287 for the Camels (1-8, 0-6), who took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter following Jeff Swinton’s 67-yard fumble recovery for a score.

Campbell’s Dakota Wolf ran for 95 yards and one touchdown and completed 11 of 18 passes for 89 yards.
