Construction on I-5 near La Center causing backup

Drivers in the La Center area are advised to take an alternate route this afternoon, as construction on southbound Interstate 5 is causing a six-mile backup.

Crews closed the left and center lanes at 9 a.m. today to repair nearly a mile of rutted and potholed pavement. The work closed the lanes between the East Fork Lewis River Bridge and the La Center exit.

A spokeswoman for Washington Department of Transportation said the work should wrap up at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, there was a long backup as of 1 p.m., meaning drivers should give themselves extra time or find other routes, she said.
