Ryan no gut feel on Hamilton future with Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Nolan Ryan says he doesn’t have a gut feeling on whether Josh Hamilton will return to the Texas Rangers next season.

Ryan said Wednesday it’s hard to have a feel not knowing what the market will be for the slugger. The Rangers president believes everybody will have a better idea after this week’s GM meetings.

The Rangers made a $13.3 million qualifying offer last week to Hamilton, a move to ensure draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team. They know the 2010 AL MVP will end up making more than that.

Without giving any numbers, Ryan is sure everybody could probably make a reasonable guess on the per-annual salary Hamilton will get. He says the question is how long a deal the 31-year-old outfielder will get.
