MANCHESTER, England (AP) — British Cycling says coach Shane Sutton has been hospitalized with a head injury after being involved in a road cycling accident in Manchester.

The organization says doctors discovered Sutton had “suffered bruising and bleeding on the brain,” adding that he “is set to undergo more tests and is likely to stay in hospital for the next few days.”

The accident happened Thursday, a day after Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins was hit by a car while riding his bike, also in northern England.

British Cycling says “it is extremely rare that our riders and coaches are hurt while out cycling on the road, even rarer that two incidents should occur in a short space of time, and we wish Shane and Bradley a speedy recovery.”
